THE MIRROR REPERTORY REVIVAL
30th Anniversary Project
“Art is not just for entertainment,” Eva Le Gallienne once declared. Indeed, at bare minimum, it must entertain; but it should also accomplish more. In our 30th anniversary season, we honor Le Gallienne's challenge by committing ourselves anew to our mission with a new season of full repertory production entitled "CIVIC RESURRECTION." In a world besieged by a plethora of social issues, we believe the inspiring and exciting plays we have selected could provide medicine that is most sorely needed. These plays are historic fixtures of the actor-manager tradition, and will be performed by our company in alternating repertory. Mirror aims to produce these works exclusively at a location suitable for repertory theatre. Mirror has also designed the resurrection season to be accompanied by a host of cultural events; these include special panel discussions, exhibits, lectures, film screenings, a series of inaugural celebrations, and arts in education programs. These events— such as as Sir Giles Grand Ball: Celebrating Great Actors in Great Parts, “Magda, Diva!” an Operatic Benefit, The Auction of The Marble Heart, Camille’s Masquerade Affair, and The Capulet Soiree: A Concert For Juliet’s Birthday, —will help to take the our mission to its logical culmination—out from the stage, and into the world.
2013 signifies the first year of the Mirror’s renewal campaign and features the company’s return to continuous repertory theatre production. Within five years, the Mirror aims to have a diverse rotating repertory core, with exciting new productions added every season thereafter. The Mirror Repertory canon—with over 400 plays targeted—will feature world classics, be they Western or Eastern, famous, undiscovered, or new.
The Mirror is excited by the opportunity to present these culturally important events. We hope you will lend us your support so that, together, we can make the repertory theatre that New York deserves.
Best Wishes—
